Jim Bisenius - Founder of Common Sense Investment Management
The founder of Common Sense Investment Management (CSIM), LLC, James “Jim” Bisenius pursued a strategy of balancing long and short equity-focused fund of hedge funds with a high return on investment. Under his leadership, CSIM managed as much as $4.5 billion in assets. Since 2014, Jim Bisenius has served as chief executive officer and managing partner with Strong Refuge, LLC.
Over the course of his investment career, James Bisenius developed a comprehensive checklist to evaluate investment risk management. At the manager level, the checklist evaluates quantitative criteria such as market exposure analysis, liquidity, statistical modeling, and performance and risk attribution. It also evaluates qualitative criteria such as contact with manager and ongoing assessment of personal motivation. For portfolio management, the checklist takes a top-down approach by considering factors related to exposure, liquidity, and the portfolio decision-making process.

Mr. Bisenius graduated from Oregon State University in 1973 with a bachelor of science in communications. Early in his career, he served as a registered representative with Foster & Marshall in Seattle, Washington.
